Tuning the Air – At A DistanceSaturday 27th of May to Saturday 2nd of December, 2006Frank Sheldon, Jaxie Binder, Curt Golden One of the forces behind Tuning The Air in Seattle was that it would be a way to keep something of the power of a Guitar Craft course in our life, while we are at home with our families, our jobs and other obligations. It’s not the same as being on a course. There are phones ringing, bills to pay, loud noises, comings and goings, too much to do (seemingly) in too little time. But, when we walk into our Space every week for our Show, something changes, because that Space seems to be outside of all of that. And the Work (and Play) we do during the week to keep it all going is like a note sounding in the background that can bring us back when we get bogged in. When we proposed taking what we are learning from this project and expanding it into an AAD format, Robert’s response was immediate and positive; “an excellent initiative.” For those taking part in other extensive and intensive courses this year, such as the Level 3 in Spain or the several League tours and projects, or those who are working and touring as professional musicians, a course such as this will not be necessary. But for the great majority of Crafty Guitarists who work every day to find ways to keep Guitar Craft living and breathing in our lives, it is a powerful opportunity; a Challenge with Significance. This is our chance to really do something the way we would want to if we could. The mission is to make a place for Music in the every day world while developing the integrity of the whole process, from preparation to performance, and all the while building a relationship with what is true for us. We are leaving room for this course to develop as we move along. We will begin with some essential aims and forms, and as the course unfolds themes and challenges will be presented. The facilitators will be providing practical advise and counsel based on our experience, and giving exercises and direction when needed to help people come to and develop their vision as well as keep an inner balance. We’re all going to begin where we are, whether we’ve been in Guitar Craft a few months or many years. Then we’ll take a long look at bringing into the world the kind of performance experience we would wish for more than any other, and work together to create the conditions under which this can come to life. The “Introduction to Tuning the Air At-A-Distance” is now posted on the Tuning the Air website at http://www.tuningtheair.com/tta/?q=node/308 The schedule of course fees is posted at http://www.tuningtheair.com/tta/?q=node/306 To apply, contact the registrar at aad(at)tuningtheair.com
