Tuning the Air Guitar Circle Week

This 1-week residential retreat is open to anyone with Guitar Craft or Guitar Circle experience. The course will focus on applying and assimilating the principles we learn in Guitar Craft to a creative musical endeavor: Performance. Drawing on the collective experience of the Tuning the Air Company, the course instructors, and all of the participants, we will explore the fundamentals of performance. What does it take to allow a performance to come alive? Performance opportunities will abound, some perhaps quite public.

Crafties who do not live near a guitar circle are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to work with others. Existing guitar circles are encouraged to attend together, or to send a representative. Basic and advanced techniques for circle work will be presented, including performance, repertoire studies and circulation. Members of Seattle’s Tuning the Air team will perform inside and outside the circle. All participants will take part in practical work, including work in the Kitchen and work in the House.

Curt Golden, Jaxie Binder and Sandra Bain Cushman will present the course, supported by a guest instructor or two. The Kitchen will be under the direction of Patrick Smith, with Victor McSurely providing Theme work. The Alexander Technique will be presented by Sandra Bain Cushman.
