An Invitation to Visit Tuning the Air Seattle, WA, USAFriday 19th of August to Monday 26th of December, 2005
“Tuning the Air” is a work in progress, and unique in the world. We are committed to exploring the possibilities of performance in the Circle. Performances take place every Monday evening, in an evolving space dedicated to presenting this music in this format. Long-time Guitar Craft veterans Frank Sheldon, Curt Golden and Jaxie Binder manage the production. The team that has assembled to realize Tuning the Air is composed of Crafties with all levels of experience. The entire group is involved with and responsible for every aspect of the production, from creating and maintaining the performance space to promoting the event to serving refreshments to the audience before the show to running the lights to playing the guitar. We are 19 performances into a 38-week run, and every show is built upon the last. The core principles and values honored, the specific form constantly evolving in a spirit of inquisitive openness. It is hard work, but very rewarding. And what is emerging is remarkable. We are extending an invitation to participate… Anyone with experience in Guitar Craft is welcome and encouraged to consider a visit. It is not a conventional Guitar Craft course, rather an opportunity to plug into an ongoing creative process operating on Guitar Craft principles. Why not come to Seattle for a while? Treat it as a sabbatical to work and practice on your own, practice and rehearse with the Tuning the Air performance team, learn repertoire, share repertoire, learn some of the ins and outs of how a production of this kind works, and perhaps even join in on one of our Monday night performances. There are no fees for simply participating, which includes taking part in rehearsals as much as playing ability allows. The Seattle team will be happy to assist applicants in finding suitable and affordable housing for their time here. Anyone interested in visiting should inquire with curtgolden at tuningtheair dot com. RF: the sabbatical idea resonates strongly with me. the visitor is sufficiently mature to be a self-initiating unit, but with a supportive environment in which to flourish.
